In February 2003, legislation was enacted in Europe as “Directive 2002/95/EC” on the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS). This policy restricts the use of certain hazardous materials in electrical and electronic equipments placed on the market beginning July 1, 2006. This RoHS directive limits the amount of six environmentally hazardous substances:
- Lead (Pb)
- Mercury (Hg)
- Cadmium (Cd)
- Hexavalent Chromium (Cr+6)
- Polybrominated Biphenyl (PBB)
- Polybrominated Diphenyl Ether (PBDE)
KMC Controls is committed to fulfill the requirements of the European RoHS Directive. We have developed a product transition strategy based upon product families rather than by product part number. Our goal is to be compliant with the RoHS requirements with our next generation of each product family, with individual product families achieving compliance at different times. The conversion may require the substitution of internal components with different lead finishes, and/or the use of lead-free assembly materials and techniques within our manufacturing processes. Our intent is to produce RoHS-compliant products without compromising form, fit, or function and that performance and reliability will meet or exceed that of current products. Once a product family is compliant and has completed any necessary performance and qualification testing, reliability data will be available upon request.

While the majority of parts in all other KMC electrical product lines meet the material requirements of RoHS, a limited number of parts currently do not. KMC Controls is, and will be, designing the next generation of these products to meet the material restrictions of RoHS.
Once all product lines are converted, KMC Controls will be compliant with European Directive 2002/95/EC on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances. KMC does not warrant that customers’ own products, which incorporate such KMC products, will in turn comply with European Directive 2005/95/EC. In all events, the customer shall remain liable for ensuring its own products meet the requirements of European Directive 2002/95/EC.
